About Mansions of the Moon

Mansions of the Moon is a free lunar mansion calculator and reference built around the 28 Manazil al-Qamar of traditional Islamic astronomy. It combines precise astronomical calculation with the classical correspondences recorded in sources like the Picatrix — mansion names, ruling planets, fixed stars, and the activities each station of the Moon favors.

Every mansion is paired with a unique piece of interactive generative artwork by the artist M3th1ld3, turning an ancient sky-mapping system into a living visual almanac. The project exists to make lunar electional timing — choosing the right day by the Moon’s position — accessible to anyone, for free. How the calculations work

The calculator determines the Moon’s ecliptic longitude for your exact location and moment, then maps it onto the 28 equal divisions of 12°51′ each. Moonrise, moonset, phase, and illumination are computed with standard astronomical algorithms. Results are shown instantly in your browser.
